Dana Anne Yee, Landscape Architect, LLC.
Profile
Founded in 1996 and based in Hawaiʻi, my firm, Dana Anne Yee, Landscape Architect, LLC. has over 27 years of professional experience in Landscape Architecture. I am a registered Landscape Architect in Hawaii with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), a Certified Arborist (CA) with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and a LEED Accredited Professional, U.S. Green Building Council. I was elected to the ASLA Council of Fellows in 2012.
After receiving my Bachelors of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of California at Davis in 1984, I returned home to Hawaiʻi and worked as a Senior Associate for Walters, Kimura, Motoda, Inc. for 10 years prior to starting my own practice.
I am an active member and past president of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Hawaii Chapter, past president of the Friends of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens, and current vice-president of Scenic Hawaii, Inc.
My travels throughout the world, involvement in many volunteer organizations, teaching art at the Honolulu Academy of Arts to Kindergarten and 1st grade budding artist and my many different interest in my life including; art, plants, photography, sculpture, woodworking, print making and jewelry making, have been influential in my designing of landscape architectural landscapes.
I specialize in the landscape development of commercial, governmental and residential projects. I provide full landscape architectural services in the areas of site planning, planting design, irrigation design, construction drawings, specifications, presentation drawings and construction administration. I use a variety of design tools, such as AutoCAD drawings and colored master plans. My firm is certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Small Business (SB) and a Women-Owned Business (WOSB). I complete projects on time and maintain a strict quality of control over all of my projects.
I feel that it is important to meet and work with my clients to design a landscape that will meet their needs both functionally and aesthetically. I enjoy creating spaces that are designed for the use of each client; whether it be a nice patio shaded by a flowering tree, a gathering place at an office courtyard or a tricycle pathway and raised garden for a preschool garden.
I take pride in the extra steps I perform during all phases of the project from the design to the construction administration phase. I hand select quality and healthy trees directly from the source to avoid a double move and stress on each tree. I select plant material based on their color, texture, form and how well they compliment each other. I then direct the placement and planting of each tree to accentuate the tree's best side and location. I also create spaces though the designing of the hardscape such as paving and low walls. The right plant is important so I personally place the shrubs, ground cover and other special plants in their most suitable location.
I feel that the planting design should include, whenever possible, developing a sustainable landscape though the use of planting Native and Drought Tolerant ground covers, grasses, shrubs and trees. This will help to create a sustainable landscape to preserve our limited natural resources and help to plan for future generations in Hawaiʻi.
The best part of my job and biggest compliment that I receive is when I see and hear how happy my clients are in their new landscape gardens.
